Note: This session takes place during the first half of the afternoon instruction period. Please also select a session (labeled B) to fill the second half of the afternoon.
This session will review organizational classroom techniques as well as methods of instruction for older learners with a significant developmental delay in a high school setting. Verbal behavior as well as daily living skills are taught through various methods: a material sort with functional items, manding (with learners that started without a response form or any functional mands), natural environment teaching, big 6+6 fluency program and behavioral interventions. It is important to teach meaningful skills well however organization of materials and staff training is critical piece that will be presented as well. The school day should occur with maximum instructional time and conducted in an efficient manner in order to get the most instruction into the day of students that have limited skills and are near the end of their public school education.
