Many BCBAs working in schools and other settings are responsible for conducting functional assessments and developing behavioral intervention plans. What many behavior analysts may not know is that the written documents represent the only view of the process that outside observers, regulators, and advocates might have. Therefore, it is critical that the written document is constructed in a manner that is consistent with standards of legal and ethical practice. Although some aspects of practice vary from state to state, the fundamentals of the written assessment and written plan are generally consistent. He will make suggestions related to making the written components clear, and as free from misinterpretation as possible. Throughout, legal and ethical standards will guide the discussion.
